Volunteer with us

Our volunteers bring compassion, presence, and practical help to patients and families at one of life's most important passages. No clinical experience is required for most roles.

Where you can help

We have roles for people with a wide range of skills, availability, and comfort levels — from bedside companionship to administrative support.

Companionship & presence

3–4 hrs / week

Sit with patients, offer conversation or simply quiet company, read aloud, play music, or share memories. This is one of the most meaningful gifts a volunteer can give.

Family respite support

Flexible hours

Give family caregivers a break by staying with the patient for a few hours. Respite support helps prevent caregiver burnout during an exhausting time.

Practical & errands

2–3 hrs / week

Help families with grocery runs, prescription collection, light household tasks, or transport to appointments. Practical help can ease enormous stress.

Music & arts

Flexible

Musicians, artists, and creative practitioners can offer sessions for patients and families. Music and creative expression are recognised as powerful sources of comfort.

Administrative & office

Half-day / week

Support our team with data entry, filing, event coordination, correspondence, and communications — helping us focus more staff time on patient care.

Bereavement befriending

After 6-month training

Trained bereavement befrienders offer ongoing support to families in the months after a death. This role requires additional training and supervision from our counselling team.

What to expect

Every volunteer receives thorough preparation before working with patients and families. We take this seriously — and we'll support you every step of the way.
